There is a reason visiting the European Christmas markets is on so many bucket lists. It's because strolling through a Christmas Market (a/k/a Christkindl) is such a perfect event to put you in the holiday spirit.
The rustic stalls selling all sorts of Christmas goodies from ornaments to hats to crafts; the Biergarten tent with live music & beer (of course), Santa and/or a nativity scene, the delicious smells of bratwurst - sugar spiced nuts - local treats - mulled wine & hot cider, the leisurely way everyone is smiling and shopping while saying Merry Christmas - what's not to love about a Christmas Market.
If going to Europe for the Christmas Markets this year isn't on the list maybe a holiday outing to a similar market in the U.S. can be! Here's a glimpse at the Christkindl markets in Cambria, CA, Denver, CO, Orlando, FL and Chicago, IL.
Cambria Christmas Market
Oh I loved visiting the Cambria Christmas Market. First off, Cambria is a quaint little village-like town that is decorated so tastefully for the holidays. Cambria is the perfect place for a little getaway too - it's only ten minutes from a beach filled with elephant seals and the Hearst Castle.
Park at the local high school and a shuttle takes you up the Market which is set on a trail of a fantastic light display (over 2M lights)!
Locals selling their handmade crafts and food stalls line the path.
Live music on the light trail and open tent for resting or eating your treats.
The beer tent also had live music and was a fun place to listen to the music and chat with locals. (The fondue was yummy.)
I found my favorite item from all the Christmas Markets in Cambria - an antler hat. (The antlers are made of resin.)
Come along with this southern girl on my fun travel adventures! I’m taking the tours; seeing the sites; trying out the hotels; dining at the restaurants; cruising on the cruise ships; and sharing the experiences on this blog. I hope you enjoy reading about my travel escapades and that they will be inspiring and helpful when planning your own fabulous adventures.
